The world of Enchiron is rich in many kinds of magic.
Environmental Magic[edit]
Environmental magic is not able to be channeled by the populace, but it thrums through the landscape. It is the answer to many impossible phenomena found throughout Enchiron: nevermelt ice, floatstone, the wandering lights of Sayil, and much more. Kimarel is a locus of this type of magic and showcases it at is most extreme end, with reports from those who've dared to go in of shifting landscapes, mirror paths, surreal impossible structures, and heavy alterations of the mind and body.
Materials that possess environmental magic are highly valued by artificers, who use them to build and power all sorts of devices.
Natural Magic[edit]
Caelians, ignii, and ianthina all have some natural capacity for a specific type of magic. Caelians can perform light magic, which lets them summon small balls or shapes of light. They can change the shape of their light at will, or cause objects to emit light. The stability, brightness, and duration of this light is determined by number and quality of their halos. Ignii can perform fire magic, where they can summon small fireballs--typically fist size, though for some that maximum size may be smaller or bigger--or light things aflame. Ianthina can perform ice magic, which allows them to melt or freeze liquid surfaces. It's also theorized their ice magic contributes to their ability to withstand the northern cold. Among these three, the consistent trend is that natural magic is never overly powerful: it is always small in scale.
Theriads show an affinity for animals. Many find horse taming or dog training comes easily to them, and there are many cases of theriads bonding to creatures who otherwise tend to be shy or aggressive, but whether this affinity is magical or learned via their culture is a matter of debate.
Spiritual Magic[edit]
In Enchiron, ghosts are real. There are still some holdouts and nonbelievers, who presume that paranormal activity is a type of environmental magic or a figment of people's imagination, but many accept spirits to be a fact of life. While they lose their life, ghosts gain the ability to access the magic that thrums through Enchiron and perform feats that wouldn't have been possible while alive. Many use this power to try to assist loved ones, or finish up whatever business prevents them from moving on.
Mementos[edit]
A memento is an object that houses a ghost, enabling the memento's keeper to perform magic that they wouldn't typically be capable of.

Exorcism[edit]
Certain individuals are born with a sensitivity to this spiritual activity. Mediums can perceive ghosts as a feeling, visually, aurally, or through another sense; the exact experience of a medium is highly individualized, and some are more sensitive than others. Weak mediums can become stronger through practice and training, and some choose to become exorcists.
Not every ghosts' unfinished business is positive, and some not ready for death lash out. This is where exorcists come in. With training, they can separate any possessed people or objects from unnatural influence. The most powerful exorcists can even make physical contact with the ghost and disconnect them from the world's magic, which always causes them to fade away. Some believe this fading away is the ghost moving on to whatever's next, but others aren't so sure.
Wish Magic[edit]
Wish magic is also known as memory magic, or dark magic. It is not dark as in evil--at least, not usually--but dark as in unknown. This form of magic is poorly understood, as it does not abide by the laws of any other type. What is known for sure is this: any wish, sincerely held, can come true, if you sacrifice a memory. Wish magic is proven to be capable of things far beyond the limits of other types of magic. There are records of it reshaping bodies, restoring destroyed items, guiding people to safety in times of danger, and more.
For a wish to be granted, a memory must be held in mind as you wish, and it must be of equal value to the wish. This is the absolute minimum, and this does not guarantee your wish will be granted. There are cases where some have tried to sacrifice their entire lives for even a small wish, to no avail. But more often, it works, reliably enough for people to be careful when they utter the words I wish.
There is one more side to wish magic. This is not widely known, but some have found that--though less effective--bloodletting can grant wishes as well.
